Black Twitter is a thing. Instagram is the Black Chamber of Commerce. And Streaming apps like Periscope and SnapChat have put Black Business at the center of online marketing. Let's face it, Being Black online is pretty dope, and lucrative. Local Rapper and Motivational Speaker, J Menace (1/2 of Rumors Crew) Explains to The Lyke Aesthetic how social media has impacted his brand, and how more Black entrepreneurs need to get with the digital program.
Of course we influence, socially, the way they market to "us". We are the largest consumers on the planet!
Allie Lyke: What determines success in your business?
J menace: Facebook is most used media outlet on the planet. It actually surpassed Google as of 2015. The Social media period has become the platform to advertise to your target audience. I constantly post my products and the people who've been satisfied with them. The more people satisfied, the more they talk and share. The more they share, the more hits or traffic you get. The more traffic, the more sales.
Allie Lyke: What Types of Businesses do You Follow On Social Media?
J Menace: I follow many other black business owners in many different fields such as: Music, Acting, Financial Services, IT, ect. We already have a Huge Influence on social media. It has changed the corporations method in marketing things to black community. If it's a hit on IG or Facebook, it's a hit world wide.
Allie Lyke: How has advertising on Social Media influenced your business?
J menace: Advertising on on IG has tremendously influenced my business. I have approximately 1400 followers between 2 pages [and] I've generated thousands through Instagram. I post AT LEAST twice a day. I [even] had a unique opportunity to surprise my customers once. AT the time, the Promotion was, with the purchase of any apparel, they'd get 2 free tickets to a concert.
Allie Lyke: What Is The Method to Your Madness:
J Menace: There is a method to the madness. I've read several books on advertising on social media. Posting at least twice a day at strategic times is a must. Social media is the cornerstone of all my projects and releases in my business. I strategically use it to build anticipation and get an early response for products. It's the life line of my business. Studies show that most consumers choose to shop more online than any other source. So I plan each day out with what will be advertised and how many times it will be advertised. Also, I decided who I tag on posts strategically. In Fact, I Only tag people who are social and draw viewers of their own; Centers of influence if you will. This small step among many others changed the entire way I reach the masses.
Allie Lyke: How have Black Businesses Changed The Marketing Game?
J menace: Of course we influence, socially, the way they market to "us". We are the largest consumers on the planet. [Black Business on] Instagram has changed the way the game is played. I would recommend all upcoming entrepreneurs use this platform to your advantage. Add people strategically. It's not always about the the number of people you have, it's the number of people that are interested in what you have. I generate different ideas and topics through life experiences. Also through different books I read over time. There is a such thing as a perfect post. The perfect post includes the perfect pictures, with perfect poses posted at the perfect time.
