Even though we already have some strong candidates in this year's Freshman class of 2016, there are still some awesome rappers in Chicago waiting to be heard. Here are five rappers you should listen to right now: TLNTD, Howie Stackz, Dubareno, Cain, And Alex Trent. Scroll down to experience them and everything their music has to offer.
#1 TLNTD
If you were looking for an anthem to get you and the homies turnt, look no further than TLNTD (pronounced "talented"). As his name suggests, the sound he creates is amazing, as well as entertaining. Seriously though, His single "Fwiendz," which just released last week, has a dope hook and production quality, making it the perfect song to t-up to. But these things are expected when one has Classick Studios behind them (Word 2 Headache for sharing). Listen to the track now and get your life!
#2 Howie Stackz
I've been keeping up with Howie STackz for a while now, and I can confidently say no one has a sound as unique as his. It may seem like an acquired taste, especially after releases like CAtfish Aquarium; but Stackz music has the potential to develop a strong following simply by taking a stab at something everyone cares about: depression and it's alleviation. According to the rapper, His latest project, "Thirteenfiftyone," tells the story of his stint in Aurora, IL during college. Though he and some of his classmates finished college, 4 years passed before all 5 had finally left the city. However, as time passed things only managed to get worse, culminating in the abrupt loss of a dear friend. The album is that story in 15 minutes. Check out the full project below and get ready to be in your feelings for a while. It's worth it, though; I promise!
#3 Dubareno
I constantly look for new artists to write stories about. I don't necessarily latch onto anything I hear. Therefore, I got hip to dubareno through a colleague at my new job. At first I thought, "Is this my coworker trynna put 'the squad' on?" Thank goodness she wasn't and thank the lord for Dubareno aka YE PRESIDENT! His project "Harold's bag," is a nice fusion of gospel & hip hop, something Chicago is no stranger to. However, he does it in a unique way that doesn't put him in the Gospel-Juke or Gospel-Trap box like Chance The Rapper or the only song on The Life Of Pablo we liked (ultralight beam). Don't believe me? Play God's Property first!
#4 Cain
We all know the story of how cain killed abel. But what if cain saved his energy and destroyed all things material? Well, we can find out now via audio as local emcee CAin, goes in on his latest album "The Chronicles of flip phone shawty." The first track alone will have you like, "DAAAAAAAAAAAAMN," BECAUSE THE BROTHER LEAVES NO STONE UNTURNED. "fuck protein bars," he yells at the end of KXNG, one of the funniest rants you'll ever here. You'll also enjoy Tracks like #IJWL, Active, and Hella Phine. Get exposed to CAin's new album while there are still some flip phones left to destroy.
#5 Alex Trent
Alex Trent, Formerly of Rap Duo Proper Flo, has come a long way from his humble beginnings on the westside. I've watched the motor club emcee him shut it down since 2013, around the same time I started my brand, and i can honestly say he's spilling his soul on "For The REcord." Even though it was released three months ago, during the peak of grinding season, I can empathize with his story, and how he expresses it throughout the project. Tracks like Alotta People Mad, Without A Doubt, And On POint, showcase Trent's Incredible delivery and lyricism. And he goes off on without A Doubt 2.0! But you don't need me to tell you that. Scroll right on down and listen for yourself.
I hope you enjoy these artists, their music and their stories. Share and like your favorites on social media, and follow the homies to stay tuned to their latest content, performances, and projects. Let me know your thoughts & opinions in the comments below!
