The Silver Room is a very popular accessories boutique that relocated to Hyde Park last year. Featuring designs from a wide variety of local, and international, accessory brands, the store is also a meeting ground for many of the South Side’s most prominent, and active community leaders, activists, artists, and designers, regularly hosting events and exhibitions. Stef-N-Ty, founder of STEF-N-TY Hats, will be showcasing his latest swag bag at at pop-up event this weekend. Learn more about this and other events at the Silver Room this weekend by following them on IG. ![]() #2. Nothing says Mother’s Day like an old relic from the past wrapped in floral tissue paper. But seriously, who doesn’t want to get their mom a leaf-gold, ceramic tea set to go with that fancy hat you just bought her? You can find that and other cool knick-knacks at Fownd Vintage, a couple-run shop based-in Bridgeport that travels throughout Chicago’s local vendor marketplaces. I found (no pun intended) them at a monthly market on 57th. You can find, and follow, them on instagram. ![]() #3. I first met LaLa, founder and designer of Twisted Rose Metal By Lala, at the Food For Thought Open Mic a couple of months ago. At the time I was looking for loc bling, and wasn’t sure what to look for. Because I started my own locks, they aren’t even, so it’s hard finding hair accessories that actually fit. Not only are her accessories adjustable for all sizes and types, she’s always got a bundle sale going on, so I was able to get 3 lock pieces (two with stones, one without) for $15! Follow her on instagram to shop around and see about hooking your mom up with a rose quartz ring! ![]() #4. If you remember my time at Movie, Music, & Mimosas, you’ll remember my field day with Tantalizing Eyez ‘N Accessories, a jewely line designed by Cherise Jackson. She has a design for every kind of mom--her designs come in all different colors (stones), metals, and shapes. What I like about her designs the most is how she plays with body types and more geometric looks. No matter how bold the designs are, they still have a classic, sophisticated feel to them. In other words, mom can be funky and still keep her job at the VA! Follow this brand on IG to shop around! ![]() #5. When Modern Cooperative first opened, I was pissed because it took the place of Anastasia Chatzka, a women’s boutique inspired by founder and ceo Anastasia Chatzka; a store that Siren & I used to love to window shop in. We’d say to each other, “When this media stuff kicks off, we’re only going to be shopping in boutiques like this,” and that remained our mantra until the brand relocated up north somewhere (we still love you). However, when Modern Cooperative settled in, I later realized just how important its presence was on historic 53rd. Similarly to the Silver Room and the Silver Umbrella (most of the stores in Hyde Park even), Modern features handmade works from local artists and designers. These items also include furniture and home decor. If you can’t find what you want in-store (they also have a Pilsen location) you can order items online. Follow Modern Cooperative on IG to learn more! Hopefully this will help you guys out with finding that perfect gift to let mom know just how much you love her! Happy Mother's Day to all the moms, GrandMas, Ti-Ti's, Animal Moms, and God-Mommies out there (And you, too, DAddy-Moms).
