Today is Cinco de Mayo, commemorating the Mexican army’s victory over France in 1862 during the Franco-Mexican War. Since then, the holiday has become a debauched fiesta of tequila, tacos, and turn up (not that anyone is really complaining). Because it’s Thursday, though, and I want to see people have fun without losing their jobs, here are some easy ways to extend your Cinco De Mayo celebration through the weekend in Chicago. Thank you Cinco De Mayo, the fiesta that keeps on giving! How to Celebrate Cinco De Mayo Through the Weekend IN ChicagoI broke your options down to three categories: La Comida, La Fiesta, and La Musica (the food, the Party, the Music). Mix and match albums, restaurants, and events to make the most out of your Cinco De Mayo and keep the party going. The more you hop around the city, the better your experience will be. I recommend starting off today at Cesar’s ALL DAY Cinco De Mayo party for good food and drank (or at Emporium with Netherfriends if you’d rather make your own tacos & levitate), then work your way around the Pilsen area until you make it to Wicker Park’s Crocodile to (finally) wrap up your fiesta. According to my boy Lord Haiti, the best places to get Mexican food is Raymond’s in Pilsen and El Ranchito. Also, while hopping through events like Audio Love, FETISH (La Parada will be catering at this art exhibition), and The Lituation, over the weekend, you should definitely visits bars like La Vaca Margarita Bar to try their mango concoction, or Pancho Pistolas (Bridgeport) for their peach and strawberry flavors. Know your limits, though, because I don’t want to be the reason you don’t wake up on time for that Mother’s Day Brunch you promised madre. However, you could say that Ty Money’s second installment of “Cinco De Money” inspired you to celebrate this day like never before. Or that the Spanish Diego production on “The Antidepressant,” the first album from Save Money affiliate Sterling Hayes, got you in tempo. Either way, the choice, should you accept this challenge, is yours. Plan your weekend below! La ComidaLa FiestaLa MusicaThere are a bunch of things going on in the city this month!
