As we enter the second quarter of 2016, Chicago rap is preparing for release parties, show dates, and tour promotion. All winter long, rappers city-wide have grinded to save for pay to play gigs, studio time, and tour budget fees--now is the time to let the duckets flow. Chicago Media Outlets Get Exclusive content @ #SwankMediaDayThis year in particular is unique in that Chicago rap is in the limelight now more than ever before. That is, more indie artists are breaking out into mainstream spaces, giving light to a more authentic Chicago rapper, and feeding more blocks than a FEMA truck. “I can name a bunch of high end artists, and I can name a bunch of artists that you’ve never heard of. There are a bunch of artists who are not getting their shine and I want to give them a platform to say ‘Hey, this show will rock with me’,” said Marcelle, founder of LF Ent Radio, marketed by Swank Publishing, a local PR firm dedicated to showcasing some of Chicago best talent Events, and social movements including Lupe Fiasco, Donda’s House, and Hug Chicago! In the World of Swank, this is the year for Chicago to eat. To show just how well their rap artists are doing, Swank’s founder and CEO Briahna Gatlin, alongside her team of Chicago’s finest PR talent, decided to host a #SwankMediaDay at the Music Garage. On Friday, Gatlin not only showcased her intense client roster, she also gave local media outlets and opportunity to garner exclusive content for their audiences, including in-depth interviews with the company’s highly talented clientele. “We don’t really have anything like this for Chicago media,” said Gatlin. “Anybody can get together and [get drunk] and here music. I like putting these media days together so that we can actually do work,” she continued.
