As we enter the second quarter of 2016, Chicago rap is preparing for release parties, show dates, and tour promotion. All winter long, rappers city-wide have grinded to save for pay to play gigs, studio time, and tour budget fees--now is the time to let the duckets flow.

Chicago Media Outlets Get Exclusive content @ #SwankMediaDay

This year in particular is unique in that Chicago rap is in the limelight now more than ever before. That is, more indie artists are breaking out into mainstream spaces, giving light to a more authentic Chicago rapper, and feeding more blocks than a FEMA truck.

“I can name a bunch of high end artists, and I can name a bunch of artists that you’ve never heard of. There are a bunch of artists who are not getting their shine and I want to give them a platform to say ‘Hey, this show will rock with me’,” said Marcelle, founder of LF Ent Radio, marketed by Swank Publishing, a local PR firm dedicated to showcasing some of Chicago best talent Events, and social movements including Lupe Fiasco, Donda’s House, and Hug Chicago! In the World of Swank, this is the year for Chicago to eat.

To show just how well their rap artists are doing, Swank’s founder and CEO Briahna Gatlin, alongside her team of Chicago’s finest PR talent, decided to host a #SwankMediaDay at the Music Garage. On Friday, Gatlin not only showcased her intense client roster, she also gave local media outlets and opportunity to garner exclusive content for their audiences, including in-depth interviews with the company’s highly talented clientele. “We don’t really have anything like this for Chicago media,” said Gatlin.
“Anybody can get together and [get drunk] and here music. I like putting these media days together so that we can actually do work,” she continued.

Among the media outlets: Onthesneak.TV, Mindset Music, Pursuit of Dopeness, Windy City Underground, and of course The Lyke Aesthetic, with Butch & Quinn on deck. We had the opportunity to learn everything the Swank team has to offer this summer including new projects, upcoming tours, and release dates.

“It’s a big thing just to be heard. Why are you doing this if you don’t want to be heard?” Said AMEarlyMorning who discussed his guerilla strategy during his stint at SXSW, which included an impromptu performance on the street. A recap video will be available soon and he plans on releasing a new single called “Sexy Bitches and Champagne.”

I Want More Swank Media Day

“I gave up meat because it was slowing me down,” said Cesar Zamudio, better known by his brands #HelloHipHop, The Beam, Community Service Records, and a rapper moniker, Visual. The artist and entrepreneur is planning to unveil a multitude of projects over the next few months with Swank at the helm giving new opportunities to the young business man to provide for himself and the community.

“Anything you want out of life starts with your physical ability to move. If you can’t cut the mustard...you have to start over...That’s why I joined the military...I want to bring that stuff back,” said Z-Verse as he passionately shed light on his strict home life leading up to his developing rap career. He just had an interview with UIC Radio to announce his new album, The Antidote.
Remember when ATS Mag had an exclusive media day with Swank PR Last year?
The Boy Illinois is set to continue his tour with Lupe Fiasco on April 14th and plans to start his own tour in the UK over the summer so they’ll “see his style...and because he’s cold,” he said jokingly.

“It’s really about taking the next 15 dates, and using what I learned from the first 18 dates [with Lupe], and really applying and getting maximum exposure so I can go to the UK and do my own thing,” he continued.

Lord Haiti, who discussed his upcoming album, "On My Soul," and that a release party is in the works for the summer, which may include a travelling art showcase.
