Written and produced by Krystal Herself, 'Sallie' is a call out to student loan debt, i.e. 'Sallie' or 'Sallie Mae.' Throughout the song she conveys the struggles millions of graduates, and students, deal with every day. According to a study in 2015, Seven in 10 seniors (69%) who graduated from public and nonprofit colleges in 2014 had student loan debt, with an average of $28,950 per borrower. That's just the tip of the iceberg--my graduate candidates know what i'm talking About. At the end of the song Krystal screams, "I hate you, i'm forever indebted." It's like she's singing my pain. She wrote the song on her couch "as a playful blues"--a reminder for people to express themselves.
The message I'm hoping to convey with this record is that it's ok to voice your frustrations, channel them into art, and inspire people. Let them know that they are not alone in the student loan struggle. I hope people enjoy listening to it, as much as I enjoyed recording it!
