The Lyke Aesthetic’s Juneteenth Funpack/Playlist Is Here! In addition to #FathersDay, Sunday is also #Juneteenth, the oldest known celebration commemorating the ending of slavery in the United States. Dating back to 1865, it was on June 19th that the Union soldiers, led by Major General Gordon Granger, landed at Galveston, Texas with news that the war had ended and that the enslaved were now free. I’m not going to lie, Since festivities are usually on the third Saturday and Sunday of June, I’ve decided to create a Funpack for the weekend. Per usual, here are some Juneteenth inspired events in Greater Chicagoland as well as some new music to keep you moving and grooving into next week. I won’t be here to celebrate with y’all since I’ll be in Wisconsin supporting @DRXQUINNX. Still I encourage you to go out there and edify yourselves with all the celebrations, parades, and markets over the weekend.
